FCC systems now restored following a 30+ hour outage
Access to LMS, ULS and EDOCS has been restored.
As of approximately 3:30PM EDT, public access to LMS, ULS and EDOCS has been restored. REC’s eLMS has been restored and the Media Bureau is already taking actions on broadcast applications and we are seeing filed applications in LMS.
There is no word from the Media Bureau on how applications and pleadings that were due yesterday (3/12) or today (3/13) will be handled.
REC does monitor the performance of LMS on an ongoing basis.
Stay tuned to REC Networks’ Facebook Page for any related post-restoral updates.
Many FCC IT systems are not reliable. There are outages like these, often unannounced. Some systems (Equipment Authorization is one) have limited capacity for simultaneous users resulting in failed inquiries. Changes are made to public facing databases, often announced, that break commercial software that rely on those databases. The IT contractor requires multiple change-order approvals before anything can be done, instead of having a contract to "make it work and keep it working." The help desk automatically closes complaints without action or explanation. "Communications" may be the FCC's middle name, but it is one of their biggest problems.
Thank you for keeping us updated.
